The Solar System

Our Sun is just one out of the billions of stars which make up our galaxy, the Milky Way. Like many other stars, it has a number of planets which revolve around it. The Sun and the planets which revolve around it make up our Solar System. The photo below is a visual representation of our Solar system.

The planet which is closest to the Sun is Mercury, followed by Venus and then EarthEarth is the only planet known to contain life. The fourth planet from the Sun is Mars, also known as the red planet. These four planets form the "inner ring" of our solar system.

The fifth planet is Jupiter, which is by far the largest planet. Then comes Saturn which is famous for the large rings which surround it. Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun followed by Neptune. These planets form the "outer ring" of our solar system.

Pluto is no longer considered to be a planet. It is now referred to as a dwarf planet. The video below provides more information about our solar system.
